Overview

Smart Doorbell

An easy-to-use visitor notification system that bridges the gap between Second Life and Discord.

Quick Start Guide

Getting your doorbell running is a breeze. Follow these steps to ensure you never miss a visitor.

1. Unpack

Rez the doorbell and position it near your entrance.

2. Connect

(Optional) Right-click > Edit > Content. Open the discord notecard and paste your Webhook URL to get offline alerts.

3. Test

Touch the button yourself. You should hear a chime and see a popup menu. Type a test message to verify delivery.

4. Customize

The device is Mod. Feel free to resize it or tint the outer frame to match your building's aesthetic.

Status Indicator Light

The doorbell features a built-in light that informs visitors of your current status. Note that the doorbell remains fully functional even when you are away.

Green: Owner Online

Indicates you are currently logged into Second Life.

Red: Owner Offline

Messages will be saved and sent to you upon your return.

Integrations

Discord Webhook Setup

Perfect for store owners or group managers. This allows multiple people on Discord to see visitor messages simultaneously.

1. Get your Discord URL

  1. Right-click your Discord channel > Edit Channel.
  2. Go to Integrations > Webhooks.
  3. Create a New Webhook and click Copy Webhook URL.

2. Install in Second Life

  1. Right-click the Doorbell > Edit > Content tab.
  2. Open the notecard named discord.
  3. Paste your URL onto the first line. Save the notecard.

If you don't want to use Discord, leave the "discord" notecard completely blank.

Customization

The Smart Doorbell includes 4 default color styles, but you are free to modify it further.

🎨 Visuals

All parts are Modify perms. You can tint the mesh, change the textures, or adjust the intensity of the neon status light to match your home or store décor.

📏 Placement

The doorbell is low-impact mesh. For the best result, place it roughly at eye-level (waist-high for avatars) next to your main entrance.

Privacy & Anti-Spam

Anti-Spam Filter

To prevent abuse and local chat flooding, the doorbell has a built-in 2-minute cooldown per user. If a visitor attempts to send multiple messages in rapid succession, they will be asked to wait.

Privacy Link

Every message received in-world includes a direct link to the sender's profile, making it easy to identify visitors or respond to customers without searching for their name.
